About

Bethany Sew and Sew reports on the fashion industry: the collections and campaigns, the companies behind them, and the arguments about waste, fur and labour that the trade keeps having with itself. Free to read, and written for someone who wants to know what happened rather than what to buy.

What is here

  • Collections & campaigns — runway, couture and the images used to sell it.
  • The business — retail expansion, e-commerce, PR and boardrooms.
  • Brands & retail — what the high street is actually selling.
  • Sustainability — fur bans, climate targets, rental and recycling.
  • People — designers, editors and the figures the industry is built around.
  • Design — furniture and objects, where the same arguments about form and cost turn up.
  • Week in fashion — the weekly digest.

How we cover it

  • Price is not cost. The trade reports the tag and stops there. Our cost-per-wear calculator exists because the only number that describes what a garment costs you is the one nobody prints — and because upkeep on a good coat can come to as much as the coat did.
  • A sustainability announcement is a claim until it is measured. A recycled capsule is a capsule. A climate target is a target. We report what was said and what it would take for it to be true.
  • Everything is dated. These reports are from 2022. Seasons, prices and the people in the jobs have moved on; the date is at the top of every page for that reason.
  • Nothing here is a shopping list. We do not run affiliate roundups or rank products, and no brand has bought a favourable mention.

Who writes it

Articles are published by the editorial team rather than under individual bylines. Much of the archive was reported from the Polish market and reaches you through translation, which is exactly where names, dates and company details tend to get bent — corrections are welcome and are the most useful mail we get.
